Longmont man arrested in bar-fight stabbing

A 24-year-old Longmont man was arrested this morning on suspicion of stabbing two men over the weekend at the Opera House Billiard Club, 300 Main St., in Longmont and leaving them with life-threatening injuries.

Keith David Williams faces two charges of first-degree assault with a deadly weapon after Longmont police found reason to suspect he stabbed two men, ages 32 and 33, at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

The 33-year-old man's injuries spilled his intestines, and the 32-year-old man's cut sliced a major artery, said Longmont detective Sgt. Jeffrey Satur.

"He came close to bleeding to death," Satur said, adding that it started as a "fight over a girl in a bar."

Both men, whose names haven't been released, have left Longmont United Hospital and are expected to recover, Satur said.

Police didn't immediately arrest someone in connection with the stabbing, but Saturday night Longmont officers put together a special operation to look for the suspect. They arrested Williams at about 1 a.m. Sunday on unrelated offenses — driving as a habitual traffic offender and a parole violation.

He was booked into the Boulder County Jail on those charges while Longmont police continued to investigate the stabbing. They found probable cause to arrest him on the assault charges today.

He's being held at the jail and is due to appear in court at noon Friday.

These kind of things happen in Boulder.

No, Herb...it's that Longmont could be a MUCH BETTER place than it is now. There is ZERO nightlife in the downtown area! There are problems with street gangs in the schools. Go out to Boulder on almost any weeknight...and you'll see more happening than in LongTucky on *any* given Friday or Saturday Night!

I remember back in 2003 reading a bumper sticker that said "Don't Boulderize Longmont!" After my first two years there, I wanted to make a bumper sticker that said, "PLEASE Boulderize Longmont!"

Boy, the DC is on top of what's happening in this county. This happened Saturday night and it's just hitting the DC on Thursday?

I guess they had to wait for the Longmont police blotter to arrive via mail.

Or, was it not news until someone got arrested?

This didn't hit the DC until now because they were still investigating and they just made the arrest. There was a small article Sunday in Times-Call. Since you don't like Longmont why are you worried about this story not hitting the Boulder paper right away. And as a heads up this wasn't completely about a girl and the one that was involved they weren't fighting "over" her.

Longmont has become a safe haven for transients. Im glad i moved from there a long time ago. It was already infested with second generation mexican punks that wear their pants below there knees. And holler "eh", "olala wa", "essay".
