Rescue crews this morning spent about an hour searching for a 26-year-old Lafayette man threatening to harm himself and found him on a mountain ridge west of Boulder in Boulder Canyon.

Christopher Jenkins called his father early this morning and threatened to commit suicide, according to the Boulder County Sheriff's Office. His father, who lives in South Dakota, then called authorities and gave officers his son's cell phone.

Dispatchers were trying to call Jenkins when he called the sheriff's office at about 7 a.m. and told them "he had fallen and was in great pain."

Sheriff's officers and about two dozen rescuers from the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, Four Mile Canyon Fire Protection District and Boulder Mountain Parks and Open Space division launched a search near the mouth of Boulder Canyon and scoured ridges and trails along the south side of Boulder Creek.

Jenkins was found at 7:55 a.m. about 400 yards above a home at 40400 Boulder Canyon Drive, according to sheriff's Cmdr. Phil West.

Officers don't know how far he fell, but initial observations were that he had no broken bones, West said. Jenkins was "significantly intoxicated," West said, and he taken to Boulder Community Hospital for treatment.

It's unknown at this time how badly, if at all, Jenkins was injured, West said.
