A woman once married to the president of a Boulder-based hunting and outdoor knife business has sued her ex-husband for continuing to use her image on the company’s packaging and marketing materials without her consent.

Daphne Bloch filed the lawsuit against ex-husband David Bloch and his company Outdoor Edge Cutlery, with headquarters on Nautilus Court, in Boulder District Court last week.

She is seeking compensation for the use of her image since the couple’s divorce three years ago, claiming that she should be “compensated for the reasonable market value of her services.”

The couple was married for 11 years, according to the suit.

David Bloch, who wasn’t aware of the legal action when reached at his company Tuesday, said the lawsuit was without merit because Outdoor Edge went through a repackaging effort with all of its products last fall.

“We’ve taken her image off of every piece of packaging we sell,” he said. “She’s got no suit.”

David Bloch, who appears on the cable TV show “Love of the Hunt,” said the removal of his ex-wife’s image from his products was a deliberate effort, especially in the wake of a rough divorce.

Outdoor Edge has been in business for 20 years and sells a wide assortment of hunting knives, folding knives, knife/saw combos and other hunting accessories across the country and in Canada, Europe, Australia, and South Africa. It distributes its products through a wide array of retailers, including massive sporting goods stores like Bass Pro Shops.

Locally, McGuckin Hardware in Boulder and Jonas Supply Co. in Louisville carry the company’s wares.

The lawsuit, filed Friday, states that the “advertising and packaging material containing the plaintiff’s picture and likeness is still be (sic) circulated and used” by David Bloch and his company.

No packaging with Daphne Bloch’s image was found among the Outdoor Edge knives for sale at McGuckin Tuesday, nor was any marketing material with her image evident from a quick search of various hunting Web sites and online stores.

A working number for Daphne Bloch couldn’t be found Tuesday and her lawyer, Jennifer Motycka, was on vacation.

The lawsuit doesn’t specify an amount of money being sought by the plaintiff, instead asking that the matter be tried before a jury.

Wow! Sounds like Daphne may be the inspiration for the Spyderco logo, also. I always thought that one looked like a tick.

Why is the Camera advertising a movie that was shown four days ago?

Why, oh why didn't the Camera cover my uneventful divorce????

OH THE HUMANITY! THE INJUSTICE!!!

Now I know many of you have raised the "this isn't news" flag, but this is the first time I believe this qualifies, and I have been trained by the DC to have very low standards.

If this doesn’t work out for you Daphne you can always get a job with Marry Maids or be a waitress.

This lawyer tried to sue me (not my husband, just me) many years ago because my son was "mean" to another child on the bus! She had to drop the suit when the poor abused child was kicked off the bus for beating up another child. My son, according to the bus driver hadn't caused any problems on the bus. Oh, and she forgot that her law firm already represented my family! Hahaha! She was let go from the firm shortly thereafter. Maybe she could check facts before she grabs clients for the quick buck.
