Firefighters put out blaze in Niwot
Authorities found unoccupied home in flames
Fire and sheriff’s officials are investigating whether an electrical problem could have caused a fire early this morning at a Niwot house where nobody was home.
Firefighters quickly put out the blaze, after dispatchers received calls at about 1:10 a.m. of smoke billowing from the single-family home at 6987 Totara Place. A mold problem had made the home uninhabitable, said sheriff’s Cmdr. Phil West.
The homeowners’ names have not been released as sheriff’s officials this morning still worked to reach them. The home is in a neighborhood that is near Niwot Road and North 79th Street.
“The house is owned, but not presently occupied,” West said.
West said that the home had been undergoing some renovations, and investigators are considering whether an electrical problem could have started the fire. Arson is not suspected, he said.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames and searched the home, which they discovered to be unoccupied, according to Boulder County Sheriff’s Officials.
The fire caused moderate damage to home, authorities said. There were no injuries.
Deputies from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office and firefighters from the Boulder Rural Fire Protection District, Mountain Fire Protection District and the City of Boulder Fire Department responded to the blaze.
The Mountain View Fire Protection District and deputies from the sheriff’s office are investigating the cause of the fire.

Certainly this one fire wasn't the cause of all the smoke in the valley this morning. (unless it was) Anyone know what's filled the air with smoke from at least lafayette to broomfield?

The smoke isn't from that house fire. It started sometime after 8:45 am. It looks thicker towards the flatirons.

I'd be very suspicious of a fire that started in a home plagued with a "mold problem"...

The smoke filling the air is from fires in Montana, Wyoming and NE Colorado blowing down here.
