Janet and Jim Taapken, of Boulder, were married Aug. 18, 1973, in Springfield, Ill., at Blessed Sacrament Church.

The couple met at Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield after Jim had completed four years in the U.S. Air Force. Jim graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in electrical engineering and Janet graduated from Sangamon State University (now the University of Illinois) with a degree in accounting. They moved to Boulder in 1978.

Jim has worked for Hughes Aircraft, Ball Aerospace, StorageTek and Seagate and is currently semi-retired and working part-time at the Boulder Country Club. He also does volunteer work with local hospitals.

Janet has worked for BioStar Medical Products and is currently a controller employed by Phase IV Engineering. She does volunteer work with families with triplets and delivers Meals on Wheels.

They have two children: Tyler, of Superior; and Elizabeth, of San Diego. They graduated together from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley in May 2000.

The couple celebrated in Hilton Head earlier this summer.
